Saturday night rewind
This is a few hours later the normal, but it was a busy day with travel and so on. Five highlights from around the country Saturday night:
1. Bemidji State will come to Ralph Engelstad Arena for the Subway Holiday Classic on fire. The Beavers have scored six goals in four of their last five games, including each of the last three. Defenseman Brad Hunt had a hat trick on Saturday night against Huntsville.
2. On the other hand, Ohio State will come to the Classic seething from a tough loss. The Buckeyes were up by three goals in the third period against Ferris State and lost the game in overtime. The Buckeyes gave up 14 goals in the two-game series.
3. There hasn't been a Hobey-finalist letdown for Jacques Lamoureux at all. He had a goal and an assist in Air Force's win over UConn. He now has 7-8--15 in 14 games this season.
4. Minnesota lost its third straight home game when Duluth rallied for a 3-2 victory. The Gophers now have a chance to turn things in the right direction. Nine of their next 10 games are against teams with losing records.
5. Quinnipiac showed its legit by beating Cornell on the road 3-2. The Bobcats are now 10-1 on the season. They are 6-0 in the ECAC.
The Sioux, meanwhile, were swept for the first time in 35 months. That was the longest streak in the WCHA. Didn't have time to look up whether that's the longest streak in the country or not. Game stories:

A few things that didn't get into the game story:
- Obviously, reffing was the talk of the game. Denver had six straight power plays to start the second period, scored on half of them, and that was the difference in the game. The calls I thought were the most curious: 1. Ben Blood getting hooked at the blue line and UND going shorthanded after it; 2. The ref's arm going in the air to make a call, Denver touching the puck, and UND going in the box; 3. No penalty shot when Chris VandeVelde was hooked down on a clean breakaway.
- Brad Eidsness further solidified his position as the No. 1 goaltender. Eidsness was good all weekend. He (and the Sioux) didn't allow a single even-strength goal to the Pioneers.
- Corey Fienhage had to step in the lineup against two of the deepest forward units and he did a very nice job. Rookies Andrew MacWilliam and Joe Gleason also played well. The coaching staff will have some very difficult lineup decisions.
- The amount of special teams time meant that UND's fourth line didn't see the ice a whole lot. That definitely worked against the Sioux, who had two very good nights from the freshman combo of Danny Kristo, Mike Cichy and Corban Knight.
- Joe Colborne had 11 shots on goal on Saturday night.
