Six recruits win events
It was a busy and successful weekend for UND recruits around the world. Three Sioux recruits won gold at the World Junior A Challenge, two won titles at the Bauer NIT and another one got gold at the Under-18 Four Nations Cup.
Colten St. Clair, Mike Parks and Nick Mattson all had a hand in the Americans winning gold for the second straight year at the World Junior A Challenge in Prince Edward Island.
Mattson, a defenseman, had an assist in Team USA's 2-1 win over Sioux recruit Brendan O'Donnell and Canada West.
The Americans finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, losing the opener to Canada East and then winning out. Mattson had a goal and two assists. Parks had a goal and three assists. St. Clair had two goals and three assists.
O'Donnell didn't have any points.
This is the second straight international gold medal for Mattson, who was part of the U.S. Under-18 team that won the IIHF U18 tournament in Fargo in April.
