Politics and the Red Sox
Well, who in their right mind wants to vote for either Obama or McCain?

This is what a country of 300 million has to offer their citizens? Yech ... I'd like to think we can do better. Maybe, just maybe, if there were debates and no other television coverage allowed (which is what I would propose) we could get a handle on who these two men are without the "pundits" telling us who they are and what they just said. Or, better yet, we'd have different choices than McCain and Obama. Hey, I'm a grown up (some of the time), let me decide what they mean when they say something. I can handle it. Get off the air, the rest of you please. And another thing, the campaign can last only six weeks total.
What happened to the vaunted defending Champion Boston Red Sox? They are getting man-handled by the youthful, but definitely not scared, Tampa Bay Rays. Who'd a thunk it? I was kinda hoping for a Dodgers-Sox World Series for my boy Manny.

Shaping up to be just the opposite, but stranger things have happened.

The Cheesehead Debacle that is Brett Favre
Well, what to make of Brett Favre and the Packers. I am not picking sides. They both have valid points and they both have flaws in their thinking.
First, Favre. Hey, you retired, they moved on, get over it. If you wanted to play, you had an obligation to let the Packers know before the draft. You know, the draft where they took not one but two QBs out of their 8 picks. On the other hand, the NFL is a violent game that gives very few players the chance to still compete after age 30, let alone closing in on 40. But, Favre can still play. He's still better than at least half of the projected starting QBs right now. He changed his mind. That's not a condemnation on Favre. We all change our minds once in a while. But, why go public with Gretta Van Facelift on Fox News for God's sake? That whole piece made Favre look greedy, whiny and immature. Maybe that's who Brett Favre really is. Hmmmm ...
Now, the Packers. You have every right to force Favre to play for you, retire as he has said or get something in return in trade. But really, are you going to pay a Hall of Fame QB $12M to hold a clip board and make Aaron Rodgers look over his shoulder all season (the chiropractic bills would be off the charts!)? I don't think so, and neither does anyone else, which is why you won't get much for him. A # 1? No chance ... well, maybe Matt Millen would do it. So, even though you have the right to hold Favre hostage, just as he has done to your organization the past few years, show some class and just cut him loose.

Josh Hamilton wins HR Derby ... Not!
Great entertainment last night watching Josh Hamilton belt out HR after HR, with three over 500 feet. MLB has got to change the format, though, no way Justin Morneau was the Champ, even by his own admission. Morneau hit 22 total HRs, while Hamiton hit 28 in the first round alone. Just WOW! Best part for me was watching in a Sports Bar with no "back, back, back", no never ending dialogue about Hamilton's road to this point in his life (though it's a great story, they have beat it to death). Just friends and the picture.

U.S. Open Thoughts:
This just in ... this Tiger Woods fella is pretty good, even when he's not healthy.
Rocco Mediate was a good foil, though, in the end, not good enough, just as he was supposed to be.
Johnny Miller, well, there is the mute button.
Monday 18 hole Playoffs, I like them.
