Fish recipe

Thanks to everyone who let me know that the fish recipe is a hit.  If you haven't tried it yet I hope you get a chance to, then let me know what you think.

It's summertime and more and more people are out catching their fair share of fish on the area lakes. As I visit with friends about their favorite fish recipes I find it hard to replace my old standby. Not sure where I found this recipe year ago but I have used it many times since and I have yet to find anything as good. Now, this recipe is a little different. When I tell people the recipe they look at me with that "huh?" or "really?". Yes, this recipe is very simple but it is the one recipe that I have found that takes that "fishy" taste out of the fish when you cook them. Not everyone likes that fishy taste, not that I don't mind it, but this recipe takes it out and you can just enjoy a great tasting catch.

Here it is. You'll need to make up enough of a batch to cover all of your fillets. For every egg you put into your bowl add one tablespoon of A-1 Steak sauce and stir it with a fork. Yep, there it is. Put your fillets in a bowl and pour your egg/A-1 Steak sauce marinade over the top. Make sure there is enough of your egg/A-1 mix to cover all of the fillets. Put them in the fridge for at least two hours.

Now, part two. My favorite coating. I like to crush up equal parts of Ritz Crackers with Corn Flakes. After I have crushed them up finely into a bowl I add some Shore Lunch to it. Personally I like the Cajun, not too much but it does have a little extra zing to it. You can use whichever one tastes best to you.

After the fillets have sat in the egg/A-1 marinade I just take them out, run them thru my Ritz/Corn Flake coating and fry them up, you can put them in the oven, too, if you like. I use the coating mix on chicken as well.

Try the recipe and let me know what you think. It's not your common fish recipe but I'll guarantee that it will be a hit when you serve it.

I hate this guy

I admit, I am a lousy golfer.  Gary Johnson told me once that golfing we me is like going on an Easter Egg hunt, we are always looking for my ball in some rough.  OK, I'm a bad golfer, and I have only come close to a hole-in-one once.  The ball hit the green, bounced once, went in the hole, hit the flag and came back out.  That was 20 some years ago.  Then this guy comes along and gets two holes-in-one in the same round!  I must be doing something wrong.

GAYLORD, Mich. (AP) - For somebody who'd been playing golf 50 years and never had a hole-in-one, Bob Hickey got the hang of it quickly. The 66-year-old Grayling man used a 7-iron to card his first-ever ace Thursday on the 167-yard 10th hole at Marsh Ridge in Gaylord. Then Hickey used an 8-iron to ace the 147-yard 17th hole.

According to a 2000 Golf Digest article cited by the Traverse City Record-Eagle, the odds of one player making two holes-in-one during the same round are 67 million to 1.

Hickey, who finished at 2-over-par 74, says he'd made two eagles but never came close to a hole-in-one before Thursday. The long-haul trucker says he thinks he benefited from "just pure luck."

It'll start on the first pull, or....

I wonder if Lawn Boy will have a new advertising slogan after they hear this story.  "It'll start on the first pull or you can shoot it."

MILWAUKEE (AP) - A Milwaukee man was accused of shooting his lawn mower because it wouldn't start. Keith Walendowski, 56, was charged with felony possession of a short-barreled shotgun or rifle and misdemeanor disorderly conduct while armed.

According to the criminal complaint, Walendowski said he was angry because his Lawn Boy wouldn't start Wednesday morning. He told police quote, "I can do that, it's my lawn mower and my yard so I can shoot it if I want."

A woman who lives at Walendowski's house reported the incident. She said he was intoxicated.

Walendowski could face up to an $11,000 fine and six years and three months in prison if convicted.

A call to Walendowski's home went unanswered Friday morning.

How do you know when your luck has run out?

LEBANON, Ind. (AP) - A woman accidentally stabbed herself in the foot with a 3-foot-long sword while performing a Wiccan good luck ritual at a central Indiana cemetery.

Katherine Gunther, 36, of Lebanon, pierced her left foot with the sword while performing the rite at Oak Hill Cemetery, police said.

Gunther said she was performing the ceremony to give thanks for a recent run of good luck. The ceremony involves the use of candles, incense and driving swords into the ground during the full moon.

Gunther said was aiming to put the sword in the ground, but hit her foot instead.

"It wasn't the first time I performed the ritual, but it was the first time I put a sword through my foot," she said.

Gunther immediately pulled the sword out of her foot, and her companions took her to Witham Memorial Hospital, where she was kept a couple days for treatment.

No charges were filed, police said. The Wiccans were warned that being in the cemetery in the city about 20 miles northwest of Indianapolis after posted visiting hours constitutes trespassing.

Wicca is a nature-based religion based on respect for the earth, nature and the cycle of the seasons.

Road Trip

The Parade Watcher and most of the family hit the road as we made a trek to Omaha so my daughter and her friend Sam could attend the Jonas Brothers concert at the Qwest Center.  I had given my daughter the tickets way back in May as a reward for making the A honor roll and her hard work on her school finals.  Of course gas was not quite $4 a gallon back then but it was still worth it.  That being said, here are a few news and notes from the Parade Watcher from up and down I-29.

Some of the things I noticed along the road.  South Dakota should be known for the state of road kill.  I could not believe how many dead animals there were along the roads in South Dakota.  I am not just talking about road kill that is recent, I saw some carcasses that looked like they had been there for a couple of weeks.  We did find some very friendly workers at the rest areas in South Dakota.  They asked a lot of questions; where are you from?  where are you going?  etc..  Once we got into Iowa we found it to be the land of road construction.  From Sioux City to Omaha it seemed like one long stretch of road construction.  The other thing we noticed is that Iowa does not mow the ditches along the interstate.  The grass in the ditches was high and deep.  If you are looking for any hay you could start in Iowa along I-29.

I have not been to Omaha for many years but I must say I enjoy that city.  I find it easy to get around.  We found the Qwest Center without any problem and our hotel was about a mile away so it was pretty easy to go from one to the other.  The Qwest Center is a beautiful place and must be quite the venue for concerts.  As we were waiting to pick up my daughter and her friend after the concert we sat and watched the marquee and saw all of the concerts that were coming in the next few months.  Neil Diamond, Celine Dion, Dolly Parton, ZZ Top, Def Leppard, Jessica Simpson, and those are just a few, there are quite a few more, and those are just between now and the end of the year.  Must say that is quite a list.  My wife and I got a chance to go downtown and spend some time walking around the Old Market Square.  They have worked hard at making the downtown area a center of restaurants and bars, most of which feature outdoor seating.  It was a warm, humid evening, so we chose to sit inside.  We chose the Spaghetti Works, one of my favorite spots.  It was crowded for a Monday night with the big concert in town so we had to wait for a while to get a table but it was worth it.   A heaping plate of spaghetti with meat balls and Italian sausage, and I ate the whole thing (with a little help from my wife).  As we walked around the Market Square we commented about how nice it would be if Fargo would be able to do something like that.  Not sure the Fargo streets downtown could handle all of the outdoor seating that they have to offer in downtown Omaha but it would be great to see.  Downtown Fargo has come a long way the last few years and hope it continues to grow.

All in all it was a fun trip but a quick one.  I will be glad to not drive today, or at least not for 6+ hours like I have the last couple of days anyway.
