Our Favorite Super Bowl Ads
The morning after the Super Bowl. Ben is happy that he won the Christopher Gabriel NFL Expert's NFL picks. I (Tracy) am torked. I came in a close second. We actually tied for games won, but he beat me by one point in total points. Bummer. So I'm torked about that. And mad the Saints won.
I get the whole, "New Orleans comes back from the brink, they've never been to the Super Bowl before, blah, blah, blah" but I'm big enough to admit I'm still a little bitter that they beat the Vikings. It's one thing to beat them, I can accept that. But I thought they were a little chippy and late hitty (I know that's not really a word, but you get the point).
My 7-year-old daughter has convinced me that I should be happy New Orleans won because that's where the movie, "The Princess and the Frog" takes place. Well, there is that. But mostly, today I'm concentrating on a few Super Bowl commercials that made me smile. (Although, this year's crop wasn't stellar). Here is a list of our favorites, along with Christopher and Jay's favorites as well.
Tracy's Choice: Betty White plays football for Snickers - We see Betty White covered in mud playing football with a bunch of young guys. She even takes a pretty mean hit. Her buddies say she's playing like Betty White. Someone gives her a Snickers and she turns into a young guy again. Closing shot: Abe Vigoda getting tackled with the tag line: "When you're hungry, you're not yourself." Brilliant!
Ben's Choice: Ben likes the Denny's chickens promoting free grand slam breakfasts.
Christopher's Choice: Likes the simplicity of the Google love story spot. I agree. Well done.
Jay's Choice: Likes the Doritos' ad where the little boy slaps his mom's date for eating his Doritos.
Other favorites:
Leno/Letterman/Winfrey promote the Late Show. Fun to see 3 entertainment giants sitting on the couch eating chips together.
Etrade Baby Girlfriend. One girl baby accuses another of being a Milk-a-holic
Favre for Hyundai. Apparently Favre is still contemplating retirement in 2020.
I found all of these spots on You Tube.
What's your favorite?

Mulan Jr and traveling with Miss America
Thanks to our guests today. Scott Brusven joined us to tell us about Mulan Jr. The Fargo Moorhead Community Theatre's Children's Studio Theatre production. It opens tonight and runs through next weekend. It's a great show with some very talented young performers. The music and story are Disney so you know it'll be good. Go to www.fmct.org for more information.
Thanks also to Ami Heller, the author of "Boardwalk in Disrepair - the Splintering of Miss Patriotic." The book is a novel based on Heller's career as the travel manager for the Miss America organization. For two years, Heller was on the road with Miss America coordinating her appearances and travels. The novel intertwines her real-life experiences with a little fiction. A fun read! Check it out at: www.comteqpublishing.com.

How do you dye the Red River red?
It's a question we pondered this morning on the show. This Friday its "National Wear Red Day." The American Heart Associations wants you to wear red to raise awareness about women and heart disease. It is the #1 killer of women. Consider these startling statistics:
* 450,000 die each year from cardiovascular disease. That's about one every minute
* 1 in 3 American women die from cardiovascular disease
* More women die of cardiovascular disease than the next five causes of death combined
*90% of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease
*80% of cardiac events can be prevented.
Find more information at www.GoRedND.com.
For these reasons, we need more women to think about their own heart health. By wearing red on Friday perhaps it'll be a continuing reminder to know your numbers and get checked. So says Joan Enderle from North Dakota's Go Red program. We got to talking on the show today about how to spread the word, when the idea of getting the Red River involved came up. After all, in Chicago on St. Patrick's Day the river is dyed green. Shouldn't we be able to figure something out for "Wear Red Day?" I know the river is iced over. So it would really be turning the ice red. And certainly, you don't want anyone risking their lives carrying out a visual stunt. But still it makes you think. Can it be done? It would be pretty cool. In the meantime WEAR RED ON FRIDAY!!!!!

Who needs Fabio?
Who needs Fabio? You could star in your own romance novel! It's part of a company called www.yournovel.com
Married couple Kathy and Fletcher Newburn have written 36 romance novels from various locales around the globe (still they say they've never written one that takes place in Fargo. I'll have to get on that!) The novels are both historical and modern day and can be mild or wild. They'll take your name and a little information about you and plug it into their book. With a few clicks of the mouse, it becomes your story! Send your picture and you've now kicked Fabio to the coverboy curb!
Check it out for Valentine's Day!!!!

What do you call a Scottish Movie Reviewer?
No, it's not a joke. We're trying to come up with a name for our new Monday segment where my only Scottish friend, Graeme Wylie, tells us about the movie he saw over the weekend.
Graeme is an interesting person. He is seeking to do "52 in 52." Basically, a movie a week for an entire year. Some weeks he'll fall short, other weeks he'll see two. It's an ambitious task to Ben and I since we don't often make it to a movie a month. In fact we still haven't seen Avatar!
It's not that we don't know about the movies ahead of time. Margie Bailly from the Fargo Theatre comes in studio every Friday to let us know what's ahead for the weekend. But the weekend always gets away from us. I have kids. I'm not sure what Ben's excuse is. So that led us to Graeme. He'll be the guy who sees the movie that Margie told us about on Friday.
Given that this is radio and he doesn't sound like the rest of us (No Uff-da's or long 'O's) we need to find a cute catchy title for the segment. Let us know what you think it should be. Just reply here or go to our Facebook page. Just search for The Morning Buzz in the search bar in the upper right. We'll take your suggestions and see what sticks.
By the way, Graeme will be rating his movies with Haggis'. If you're not sure what Haggis is, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you. It's a Scottish dish made from sheep lung, liver and heart mixed with oatmeal and spices and steamed in a sheep stomach. Sounds delightful doesn't it? Anyway, most of us might agree that the less Haggis the better, but in Graeme's movie reviews it's the more Haggis the better.
For example, he's giving this week's selection "Edge of Darkness" with Mel Gibson 3 1/2 to 4 Haggis'.
So tune in every Monday around 8:30 for Graeme's movie reviews (cute title to follow). Even if you're not into movies, it's kind of fun to listen to someone who sounds like Sean Connery, Sheena Easton and The Bay City Rollers! He's gonna love that comparison!
