North Dakota's own
Jim Engh, a native of Dickinson, N.D., continues to be one of the most successful and prolific course designers around. He is best known in these parts for Hawktree Golf Club outside of Bismarck, N.D., usually voted the state's best course (although the Golf Geek thinks the Links of North Dakota near Williston is better) and by any measure a great and fun and beautiful test.

If you want to kill some time on another cold and windy March day, visit Jim's web site and look around at some of the projects he's done around the U.S. and beyond. He's been very busy in Colorado, now his home base. A guy could, in fact, take a little golf vacation to Colorado and make a little Engh tour of some very nice tracks.

One thing North Dakota golfers might not know is that Engh designed a little nine-hole course in Killdeer, N.D., a few years ago. The Golf Geek -- en route to Williston a couple of years ago -- stopped in Killdeer to play Medicine Hole Golf Course and found it to be very enjoyable. All the Engh characteristics of elevated tees and bold fairways and mounding -- on a small-town scale. Sort of fun.
Here's the NDGA info on Medicine Hole. Course web site appears to be defunct.
