Did Video Really Kill The Radio Star??? Comments
Good article! I miss WLS, KAAY (Beeker Street), etc. I would listen to Chuck Buel every night. Dad would listen to the twins on the old wooden radio in the kitchen with Halsey Hall announcing. Great memories.

I remember listening to WLS top 3 or whatever it was at 10:00 at night under the covers! And later KAAY. I'd love to have the song Cindy's Cryin' Hooker on Bleeker Street AND I listened to a LOT of twins games on 'cco Good neighbor to the northwest. Or From The Land Of Sky Brewed Water

Wow, Thank You! I'm amazed that there are people out there who share my exact thoughts! I loved listening to KAAY. I was in high school and had one brother in Viet Nam, one who had recently returned, and a third one getting ready to go over (all drafted). Beeker Street was the greatest and I distinctly remember Cindy's Crying, and "you gotta let it OUT Captain!", the chimes in the background and that while listening to it, I could almost smell the incense wafting out of the radio. Incredibile memories.

Used to listen to KAAY when I was in college in Missouri in the early 70's. Loved Bleeker Street and the radio theater that came on at 2:00am. Does anybody know who sang the version of Cindy's Cryin' on Bleeker theater?

Not a regular here, but google sent me. (-:
Cindy's Cryin' is a Tom Paxton song. The version they played on Beeker Street was performed by a group called Deepwater Reunion.

I too listened to to KAAY/Beaker Street as a young lad on my clock radio in central Illinois. Once I found FM, and KSHE, I kindof forgot about AM. IT was great radio for it's time, as well as KSHE after that. Unfortunately, our children can never live the times we had. For those brave souls that made it happen. I commend you. Rock and Roll, and free speech forever. America.

Anyone who was anyone and with in a 1000 miles of LRA and was not teething should remember KAAY. Now Clide Clifford broadcasts "Beaker Street" from 105 FM in LRA. Absatively, Posaloutly the best program ever. I have copies of several tracks played on the show. I am still looking for Cindy's Cryin' though.

Forgive me for intruding but, Beeker Street? Oh how I loved it! "KAAY, Little Rock"
But can anyone tell me the name of a song I'd hear about a man taking some rope onto a ship. Later passing out on the wheelhouse floor, waking, and yelling..."I'm gonna move you baby!"
I've forgotten the name....old age I guess. Or, is it the rope?

The name of the song was The Legend of the U.S.S. Titanic by Jaime Brockett. http://www.rkdn.org/titanic%20lyrics.htm

Got on this site looking for the name of the song about the Titanic--been trying to remember the name for about 30 years! One other great song I loved was "White Bird"--can't remember the name of the group.

Beaker Street, I listened every night. 13 in a small upstairs bedroom on a farm in Minnesota. Mom would tell me to keep it down so I didn't wake my father. He didn't tolerate "underground rock", White Bird, a favotite and a classic. It's a beautiful day, was the artist (I think)

Check out this site: www.windsofchangekc.com
It's by A guy who was on KKFI in Kansas City in the early 90's, and aired the first show on that station dedicated to the music played during that period on Undrground and Progressive stations. Great page there about Beaker Street too with some audio.

I still remember listening to Beeker street and Beeker Theater on KAAY the mighty 1090. I was in high school early '70s in Pensacola, Florida. Also when I was in the navy '73-'76. Driving from Mayport, Florida to Pensacola on a weekend pass. I sure miss the quality of entertainment that came from these programs.

I remember listening to Beeker Street on from Abbeville, LA on my clock radio with two pennies under the left side and tin foil attached to the back of the radio. I believe I was a freshman in high school. I remember the songs Cindy's Cryin, Titanic, and Friend's of Mine the best. It was the first time I heard Foghat "I just want to make love to you", Jimi, if "6 was 9", and Johnny Winter, "Route 66". Also "White Bird" by It's a Beautiful Day" was also a goodie. The name Beeker Street and Clyde Clifford still pops up at gatherings between old friends.
