Boy it didn't take you long to bring in NDSU into the commentary. You didn't have to go 80 miles south for an example:

UND's star nose guard, Scott Schultz, was jailed briefly early Sunday after a fight outside a downtown Grand Forks bar.

Schultz, 22, and a senior from Moose Jaw, Sask., and Richard LaLonde, 27, a UND student from Grand Forks, were seen "having an altercation," about 1:20 a.m. outside The Edge bar, 103 N. Third St., said Sgt. Keith Schroeder of the Grand Forks Police Department.

Both men were cited for disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. LaLonde was taken to Altru Hospital by ambulance and Schultz was arrested and jailed.

LaLonde was treated and released after getting four stitches to a cut on his head, he said.

Schultz bonded out of jail shortly after being arrested, jail officials said.

Schultz said he had no comment on the incident.

Sioux football coach Dale Lennon said he would not comment on Schultz's status until the defensive player makes his court appearance today.

Last month, Lennon suspended starting tight end TRAVIS HEADLEY for one game after he was cited for disorderly conduct after an altercation at a Grand Forks residence.

LaLonde said he did not know who Schultz was and wasn't fighting him.

"His friend and my buddy had got into some kind of (altercation,)" LaLonde told the Herald. "I tried to get in the middle, between them and (Schultz) punched me."

LaLonde said his head injury came from hitting the street after Schultz hit him.

"I'm fighting mine (citation) all the way," LaLonde said. "All I was doing was sticking up for a friend, and that guy blind-sided me."

Judygate! Good stuff. Sioux fans rest easy, there will be no suspensions. The media punishment almost brought tears to my eyes.

So put Bakken in the fire Hakstol crowd. Hum, kind of interesting this could be the first step in getting dean back. Hum, bright move.

Posted by: Melvin on 2/9/2007 2:46 PM

I think anyone would agree with me that we all want Dean back. Who wouldnt? Best college hockey coach in the land. He built this program and dont forget that a lot of deans players are still in the system and I want to know what happens when they leave or graduate. UH-OH couple of losing seasons??

I am not for firing anybody, but Ryan is right about the bunker mentality. Being forthright and open about actions taken does not have to be publicly demeaning to the players or anyone else involved.

Posted by: herdlrp on 2/9/2007 3:59 PM

PEOPLE, PEOPLE. LET'S NOT READ THINGS IN THAT AREN'T THERE. I'M NOT FAVORING FIRING HAKSTOL AND BRINGING BLAIS BACK. I'M NOT EVEN CLOSE TO SAYING THAT. I'M SAYING THAT I MISS BLAIS' APPROACH TO MATTERS, WHERE HE ANSWERS EVERY AND ALL QUESTIONS HONESTLY, TAKES ON MATTERS STRAIGHT ON AND DOESN'T TRY TO MANIPULATE THINGS. HE WAS STRAIGHT WITH THE PUBLIC, WHICH IS THE DUTY OF A COLLEGE COACH. AS THE SAYING GOES, THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE MORE CONCERN FOR THE NAME ON THE FRONT OF THE JERSEY THAN THE BACK OF THE JERSEY.

DON'T BE PUTTING WORDS INTO MY MOUTH.

Never thought you were advocating coaching changes. I wonder why there is not an Atheletic Department policy that dictates release of information in these cases? I understand a coach not releasing info about the reason for disciplinary action, but when the reason is public information like a police blotter, stonewalling the disciplinary action taken does not pass the common sense test. The most embarrassing part of this whole affair is public information.

athletes are rewarded and receive acolades when they do well...likewise, they should be punished and face the music when they break the law.

Mr Bakken,

Could your talent be better used helping to solve the underage drinking problems in Grand Forks?

Just a thought maybe start at "Judys" this is a guilty bar? They have a responseability to Grand Forks to dispense alcohol legally are they ?

But no that is not the story is it, It's bigger than that.

Posted by: Cheif of Police on 2/9/2007 10:41 PM

Wow, let's not forget the fact that all three of these players BROKE THE LAW!!!!

I see no reason a one series suspension should not have been handed out, and at least a two series suspension for Bina.

I suppose Hakstol made the boys skate around the rink twice, talked about their feelings, and shared a group hug.

Hakstol's reluctance to talk to the media and lack of discipline is bushleague.

Pathetic.

You could sit in a room with all the people commenting on Bakken's blog this week and Christian Laettner style point to all the negative people and say "bison fan" or "disgruntled media type" and to the people not calling for suspensions and say "sioux fan".

I say:

I wonder why there is not an Atheletic Department policy for atheletes that break the law?

Are there not training rules about alcohol use?

or maybe they weren't drinking and the media just made all of this up?

What in the world does the illegal criminal behavior of und athletes have to do with NDSU? These guys are drunken thugs living off the taxpayers and the people that directly finace athletics at und. They might not be put out, but as a taxpayer I want the facts out in the open. What in the hell is going on in that program up there?

Posted by: JBB on 2/10/2007 9:22 PM

You're worried about costing taxpayers money Bjorny? Didn't you cost the taxpayers of Minnesota almost $15,000 a few years ago in appraising a co-worker's house $20-25,000 over value?? Here's the link, judge for yourselves...

news flash to sioux hockey fans: blais is going to fargo to coach. ushl is just the start of his great bison career. fargo will be the hotbed of college hockey in north dakota within 5 years.

Posted by: club hockey on 2/11/2007 8:50 AM

The Bison are not getting hockey. Blais is not going to coach the Bison in anything.

Now we can finally talk about sports again. Maybe the media will finally get on with something else.

Posted by: Goon on 2/11/2007 10:32 AM

that was 15 years ago!!

MY GOD YOU UND FAGGOTS HAVE TO GO THAT FAR BACK HUH?

GET A FREAKIN LIFE BAKKEN U FREAKIN LOSER

UND= past

NDSU= FUTURE and its BRIGHT!!!

"Appraiser John",

Aren't you a Minnesota resident? If so, your "as a taxpayer" diatribe is just drivel.

Posted by: hmmm on 2/11/2007 1:03 PM

Why did Haskol invite the Chief of Police to address the "ENTIRE" team? It suggests to me that most of the team was at Judy's that night and only three of the "confused" patrons got caught while others made a break for the back door.

Apparently Haskol thought it would be unfair to suspend the three 'unlucky' ones when there were many more involved. That wouldn't be fair, would it?

Until we get answers - I and others will only be able to speculate.

As a tax paying North Dakotan, I ask...why is all this tax money going to all these Canadians?
