Dille to leave Senate
A Republican state senator who at times strays from the fold decided not to seek re-election in 2010.
Steve Dille of Dassel opted against a sixth Senate term.
"He often defused partisan rancor with his well-known sense of humor and warm personality," Senate GOP Leader Dave Senjem of Rochester said. "Sen. Dille is one of the most respected legislators at the Minnesota State Capitol, and his leadership will be missed."
At times, Dille frustrates Republicans with his failure to support their causes. Democrats have tried to recruit him in the past.
Dille, veterinarian and farmer, served as a local elected official before being elected to the state House in 1986. He moved to the Senate in 1992, where he often served as a voice for farmers, who are becoming rare in the Capitol.
