Simpson retiring
The list of Minnesota House members bowing out this year grew today.
Rep. Dean Simpson, a third-term Republican from Perham, announced his retirement. He joins a list of at least 12 representatives opting against re-election this fall.
Simpson, who recently opened a new grocery store in his hometown, said he needs to spend more time with family and his grocery business.
"Rural area businesses like mine all have unique challenges that require a lot of attention," he said, adding "it isn't always fair to ask my staff to be responsible for all the things that I feel I should be taking care of."
Simpson for two years has served as the top Republican on the House Taxes Committee.
